The short version
Switch My House Australia Pty Ltd (ACN 698 347 205) takes privacy seriously. We collect the information needed to match homeowners, verify identities, and run the Platform. We do not sell your personal information. Exact property addresses are not shown publicly by default. You can access, correct, or delete your information at any time by contacting us.
By using the Platform you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described in this Policy.
This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains how Switch My House Australia Pty Ltd (ACN 698 347 205) ("Switch My House," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, discloses, and protects personal information when you use the Switch My House website, mobile application, and related services (the "Platform"). We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
1.Our Commitment to Privacy
We recognise that buying, selling, and moving home involves sensitive personal and property information. Switch My House is committed to handling that information with care, transparency, and respect for your privacy rights.
We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and any other applicable privacy laws. Where we are required to do so by law, we will notify affected individuals of any eligible data breach without undue delay.
2.Information We Collect
Personal information
We may collect:
- Full name and contact details (email address, mobile phone number)
- Residential suburb
- Date of birth
- Profile information and communication preferences
- Identity verification information (see Section 5)
Property information
- Property address
- Property photographs
- Property features, specifications, and preferences
- Property value estimates provided by you
- Listing information and moving intentions
Verification information
To maintain Platform integrity we may collect information to verify your ownership of, or authority to act in relation to, a property. This may include:
- Government-issued identification
- Proof of ownership documentation
- Council rates notices or utility bills
- Land title information
- Other documents reasonably required for verification
Verification processes improve Platform integrity but do not constitute a guarantee of ownership, authority, or authenticity.
Technical information
We may automatically collect:
- IP address, browser type, device information, and operating system
- Usage data, session information, and log files
- Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 8)
3.How We Use Your Information
We use personal information to:
- Create and manage user accounts.
- Verify users and property ownership or authority claims.
- Facilitate homeowner matching and display listings and profiles.
- Enable communication between matched users.
- Provide customer support and respond to enquiries.
- Process subscriptions and payments.
- Improve Platform functionality and conduct analytics and business planning.
- Monitor Platform integrity and security, and prevent fraud and misuse.
- Comply with legal obligations.
- Send service updates, important notices, and (where you have consented) marketing communications.
We will only use your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, or for a directly related secondary purpose you would reasonably expect, or with your consent.
4.Property Matching and User Visibility
The purpose of the Platform is to facilitate homeowner-to-homeowner matching. When you use the Platform, certain information may be shared with other users to facilitate matching and communication. Depending on Platform settings and your preferences, this may include:
- Your first name and general location or suburb.
- Property characteristics and photographs.
- Property preferences and match-related information.
Switch My House may provide privacy controls that allow you to manage what information is visible to other users. You acknowledge that information you voluntarily share with another user may be viewed, copied, or retained by that user.
5.Property Address and Identity Privacy
Property address privacy
To protect users and their properties, exact street addresses are not displayed publicly by default. Property matches are initially based on suburb, location data, property characteristics, and user preferences.
Exact addresses may be shared only once both parties choose to progress a match, or otherwise consent to the exchange of additional information. You should exercise your own judgment before disclosing your property address or other sensitive information to another user.
Identity verification privacy
Identity and ownership verification documents are used solely for verification, compliance, fraud prevention, and platform administration. They will not be displayed to other users, referral partners, or third parties unless:
- You expressly consent.
- Disclosure is required by law.
- Disclosure is reasonably necessary to investigate fraud, misconduct, or security concerns.
- Disclosure is required to protect the rights, property, or safety of Switch My House, its users, or the public.
User responsibility
While Switch My House provides privacy controls and security measures, you remain responsible for deciding what information to share with other users. Switch My House cannot guarantee that information you voluntarily disclose to another user will remain confidential once shared.
6.Service Partners and Third-Party Providers
If you choose to engage a third-party professional through the Platform (such as a mortgage broker, settlement agent, conveyancer, real estate agent, buyers' agent, or other property professional), we may share information with that provider to fulfil your request.
We share only the information reasonably necessary for the relevant referral or service. Once information is provided to a third-party provider, that provider's own privacy practices and policies apply. We are not responsible for how third parties handle information once it has been disclosed to them.
We may receive a referral fee or other commercial benefit from some partners. We will disclose this where required by law.
7.Marketing Communications
We send marketing communications, such as platform updates, feature releases, promotional offers, and educational content, only with your consent, in accordance with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
You may opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe function in any marketing communication, or by contacting us at info@switchmyhouse.com.au. Important service-related communications may continue to be sent where necessary, even after you opt out of marketing.
8.Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to improve your experience, maintain account sessions, analyse Platform usage, monitor performance, and deliver relevant content. You may disable cookies through your browser settings, although some Platform features may not function correctly if you do so.
9.Storage and Security
Switch My House takes reasonable steps to protect personal information from unauthorised access, misuse, interference, loss, modification, and disclosure. Security measures include encrypted communications, secure cloud hosting, access controls, password protection, monitoring systems, and internal security procedures.
While we take reasonable precautions, no online platform can guarantee absolute security. You should take steps to protect your own account credentials and notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
10.Retention of Information
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the Platform, provide services, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. We may retain certain information after your account is closed where required by law or for legitimate business purposes, and will securely destroy or de-identify information that is no longer needed.
11.Overseas Disclosure
Some technology providers, software services, or hosting providers we use may be located outside Australia. By using the Platform, you acknowledge that your information may be stored or processed in overseas jurisdictions. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that overseas providers maintain privacy and security standards consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
12.Access and Correction
You have the right to request access to personal information we hold about you, and to request correction of information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. We will respond to access and correction requests within a reasonable time and, in any case, within the timeframes required by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

13.Deletion Requests
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information by emailing info@switchmyhouse.com.au. We will verify your identity and respond within 30 days.
Some information may be retained where we are required to do so in order to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, investigate fraud, enforce agreements, or protect Platform integrity.
14.Children's Privacy
The Platform is intended for adults aged 18 years and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from persons under 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it promptly.
15.Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes, we will provide reasonable advance notice by email or by a prominent notice on the Platform before the change takes effect. Continued use of the Platform after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
16.Privacy Complaints
If you believe your privacy has been breached, please contact us in writing at info@switchmyhouse.com.au. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
