Privacy Policy

Who we are

Switch My House (“Switch”, “we”, “us”) operates a property matching platform for homeowners in Perth, Western Australia. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

What we collect

To run the platform we collect:

  • Account details, your name, profile photo, email, phone number and suburb.
  • Property details, the address, photos, specifications and price range of homes you list. Your street address is never shown to other members; only your suburb appears publicly.
  • Activity, likes, matches, chat messages, offers and deal progress, so the platform can work as designed.
  • Finance preferences, your answer to the broker question, and your broker’s details if you choose to share them.

Verification documents

When you verify ownership you may upload a council rates notice, certificate of title or utility bill. These documents are stored in a private, access-controlled bucket, are used solely to confirm that you own the property you’re listing, and are never shown to other members. Automated checks and our review team are the only parties who access them. You can request their deletion at any time.

Last-name privacy

Your last name is never displayed to other members. Across the platform you appear as your first name and a last initial only (for example, “Sarah T.”). Your full name is only used internally, for verification, and in documents you choose to enter into with another party.

How we use and share information

  • To match you with other homeowners and operate chats, offers and deal tracking.
  • With licensed agents, brokers and settlement agents, only when you request agent assistance or consent to your agent being kept updated.
  • To send you service notifications, and marketing only if you’ve opted in (you can turn this off in your profile at any time).
  • We do not sell your personal information.

Analytics, advertising and crash reporting

We measure how the website and app are used so we can improve them and understand which advertising works. This uses cookies, similar technologies and, in the app, your device’s advertising identifier.

  • Google Analytics, which records pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser, and how you arrived. Google is the recipient.
  • Meta, for advertising measurement. When you take an action such as creating an account or listing a home, we send Meta a record of that action. Where you are signed in, this includes a one-way encrypted (hashed) version of your email address and member ID so Meta can match it to an account it already holds. Meta does not receive your email address itself. In the app, Meta also receives your device advertising identifier so an app install can be attributed to an ad.
  • PostHog, our product analytics, which records screens visited, time on screen and the path you take through the platform. This includes session recording, which captures how you move through pages. All text you type, including anything you enter into a form, is masked and is not recorded.
  • Crash reporting, where a technical error message, the page it happened on and your member ID are stored in our own database so we can find and fix faults. These records stay with us and are not sent to a third party.

We do not use any of this to make decisions about you as an individual, and we do not sell it.

Your choices

  • On iPhone and iPad, the app asks your permission before using the advertising identifier. If you decline, advertising measurement still works in a limited, aggregated form, and nothing else about the app changes.
  • On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings, under Privacy then Ads.
  • In your browser, you can block or delete cookies, and use Google’s opt-out at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
  • Marketing email is off unless you opt in, and you can turn it off at any time in your profile.

Overseas disclosure

Google, Meta and PostHog store and process information in the United States, and may process it in other countries where they operate. By using Switch My House you agree to your information being disclosed to these providers on that basis. Each is bound by its own agreement with us to use the information only to provide the service to us.

Storage and security

Data is stored with our cloud infrastructure providers using encryption in transit and at rest, with row-level access controls so members can only ever access their own records and content shared with them.

Access, correction and deletion

You can update most information from your profile. To access, correct or delete anything else, or to delete your account entirely, use the “Delete my account” option in your profile or contact us at privacy@switchmyhouse.com.au. We action deletion requests within 7 days.

Complaints

If you believe we’ve mishandled your information, contact us first and we’ll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
